Lottie Micro Interaction System

A motion system for lightweight UI animations, loading states, empty states, confirmation moments, and product feedback.

The challenge

This pathway focused on building a library of micro-interactions using Lottie. The goal was to enhance the product feel through motion without compromising performance or causing visual distraction.

Problem

Static feedback (like basic loaders or plain success messages) can feel dull, but heavy animations slow down the app. The system needed lightweight, consistent motion for standard interactions.

Who it's for

  • Product end users
  • Product designers
  • Front-end developers implementing motion

Approach

Design a standardized set of Lottie animations for common UI states (loading, success, error, empty state, data refresh). Ensure files are optimized for fast loading and easy integration.

Key features & screens

  • Loading spinners & skeletons
  • Success & error indicators
  • Empty state illustrations
  • Pull-to-refresh animations
  • Button micro-interactions
  • Navigation transitions
  • JSON optimization
  • Developer integration guide
  • Motion design tokens

System & UX decisions

  • Keep animations under 2 seconds to avoid frustrating users.
  • Use motion to explain state changes, not just for decoration.
  • Ensure all animations match the brand's visual tone.
  • Provide scalable vector formats (Lottie JSON).
  • Support reduced-motion preferences at the implementation level.

Outcome

A reusable Lottie/motion set was shaped for consistent product feedback across key UI interactions.
